Imbox Protection and Artlinco collaborated closely to realize the vision of creating the ultimate shoe care solution. The first step was to gain insights into Imbox Protection’s current in-store shoe protection service. Through extensive user testing, observations, and interviews, it became clear what the pain points and gains were in relation to the existing machine.
Additionally, it became apparent that the machine’s current design did not harmonize with many stores’ interiors. It was therefore essential to look closer at how the form and design could support the overall impression of the store.
Finally, a new type of treatment fluid was introduced, which necessitated a complete redesign of the mechanical system.
Based on these findings, the focus of the development work was to create an exceptional user experience and an optimal spray process that both provides better shoe protection and reduces waste.

Imbox Protection offers retailers the world’s only in-store service for shoe protection. Imbox is a groundbreaking solution that creates value for both retailers and customers. The machine protects all types of footwear – regardless of size, shape, and material – against various external influences such as water, salt, and sun.
While the current machine performs satisfactorily and provides good protection for footwear, it needs optimization in terms of design and user experience.
With the introduction of a new and more sustainable protective fluid, Imbox Protection therefore contacted Artlinco with a desire to develop a new machine. The development task covered everything from initial idea and conceptualization to construction and dimensioning of the nozzle system as well as the development of the user interface and experience.
Through extensive user research and testing in shoe stores across the country, we gained deep insights into users’ needs and challenges, creating a solid foundation of knowledge to initiate development. It turned out that the current machine required a lot of training and experience to operate, and that the spray system could be improved in terms of both precision and fluid consumption. Additionally, it became clear that the machine’s current design did not harmonize with the stores’ interior design. It was therefore essential to look more closely at how the design could be better integrated. During development, it turned out that the new fluid had different characteristics than the current one. This meant that all mechanics had to be rethought.
